PLACES TO VISIT

Burg Eltz

With Tudor-style buildings and cone-shaped roofs, it is one of the prettiest castles in Germany. A guided tour includes the Armoury, the Treasure Chamber and the Knights Hall.

St. Goar

Located in the Rhine Gorge, the town is known particularly for the legend of the Loreley, associated with the dangerous Loreley Rocks.

Phantasialand

Located near Cologne, this is Germany’s premier theme park with over 100 attractions to suit all ages.

Boppard

The Celts, Romans and Franconians have all left their mark on the 2,000 year-old town and, at every turn, there is evidence of their presence. Take a chairlift for fantastic views of the Rhine.

Marksburg

Said to be the best-preserved on the Rhine, Marksburg is the only hill castle on the Rhine that has never been destroyed.

Rhine River Trips

Your coach will drop you off at one of the numerous departure points in the area and meet you further along the river whilst you enjoy the sights of the Rhine from a different vantage point.

Cochem

Join a guided tour of the spectacular Reichsburg Castle, take a chairlift ride or visit the Cochem swimming complex with a wave pool and giant 55-metre flume.

Koblenz

Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, full of historic buildings, cosy lanes and narrow alleyways. Take an energetic climb (or the chairlift) to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

Rudesheim

Here you could visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, visit a wine museum or take the cable car to the nearby Niederwald Monument.

Itinerary Example


DAY 1: Travel from school to channel coast for a crossing to Calais or Dunkirk. The journey to the Rhine/Moselle area will take about seven hours from Calais, depending upon the location of your selected accommodation. Arrive at your accommodation in time for evening meal.

DAY 2: A full day excursion on the Rhine with a wide selection of visits to choose from. You could take a steamer trip along the river and visit the picturesque towns of Boppard and St. Goar, see medieval Marksburg Castle or visit Rudesheim.

DAY 3: A full day excursion in the Moselle Valley. A choice of visits could include Cochem and its impressive castle, Burg Eltz and Koblenz with the Deutsches Eck and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

DAY 4: Another full day of visits that could include Germany’s premier theme park, Phantasialand (admissions not included), or possibly Cologne with its cathedral and Chocolate Museum.

DAY 5: After breakfast, depart for your return journey to Calais or Dunkirk, arriving back at school mid to late evening.
