Agincourt 1415
Our visit to Agincourt is structured to allow groups to gain an insight into the nature of medieval warfare and the pivotal role of King Henry V in one of the most decisive battles of the 100 years’ war. The itinerary includes a full day walking the field in company with an expert Battlefield Guide. Groups will not only gain an understanding of the military technology and tactics of the day, they will also consider the composition of the armies of both sides and the feudal loyalties that bound the English and French Armies together. Our discussions will examine the complex challenges faced by medieval commanders when planning and supporting a high-risk campaign on foreign soil and the experiences of the men at arms that they commanded. A visit to the Battlefield Visitor Centre presents the opportunity to view and handle the weapons of the day, further consider the social structures of the opposing forces and the importance of religion and medical support to the men who fought.
PLACE TO VISIT
Agincourt
In 1415, on fields near the village of Azincourt, the English army, led by King Henry V, crushed the French army even though the English were outnumbered by at least three to one. Standing on this historic site of the battle, is the recently opened Medieval Centre.
Itinerary Example
DAY 1: Travel from your chosen departure point to the Channel coast for your morning crossing to Calais. A possible excursion today includes a visit to Amiens Cathedral.
DAY 2: After breakfast, depart with packed lunches and travel to Agincourt for a guided walk of the battlefield with an expert guide. This is followed by a visit to the Azincourt Visitor Centre, where you’ll have the opportunity to view and handle replica weapons from the period. Later, return to the Calais Eurotunnel terminal for your crossing back to Folkestone, before continuing your journey home.
