INTERNATIONAL GUILD of BATTLEFIELD GUIDES
Meet Our Guides:

Our Battlefield Guide Nick, has had a passion for history since their school days, always taking an interest in the stories of the places they have lived and worked. Recently completing a History degree with the Open University, they have continued to deepen their knowledge through research and study. Their interest in military history grew while researching the names on their town’s war memorial and co-authoring books to ensure those individuals were remembered within the local community.
What they enjoy most about guiding is helping visitors experience history in a tangible way. Standing on the battlefields, seeing key locations, and walking in the footsteps of those who were there brings a powerful new understanding of events. It is that connection to the past — whether through archives, artefacts, or preserved sites — that continues to inspire them.
A favourite location to share with school groups is Sanctuary Wood, where preserved trenches and a traditional museum setting offer a vivid and memorable insight into trench warfare.
For groups looking to enhance their excursions to the battlefields of Europe, we are partners with the International Guild of Battlefield Guides and therefore have access to trained, experienced and vetted Guides. They are chosen for their suitability to work with school groups to bring the reality of war to life. All Guild members have one thing in common, their love of military history.

Nick
After 20 years serving as a British Army infantry officer — leading and participating in battlefield studies — he became a professional Battlefield Guide in 2014. His military background brings a wealth of first-hand insight and depth to the tours he leads.
His interest in history began at school, inspired by teachers who were Second World War veterans. They taught him that history is not just about dates and statistics, but about real people making real decisions in extraordinary circumstances. It is this human side of history — the experiences, choices, and lessons that still shape our world today — that continues to excite and motivate him.
As a Battlefield Guide, he finds great fulfilment in helping groups and individuals deepen their understanding of the events and people who have shaped our modern world. Whether working with school groups, adults, or serving soldiers, he values the opportunity to help others grow in knowledge and confidence, particularly when supporting students with their coursework and exam preparation.
If asked to choose a favourite destination, he would select Berlin. As one of Europe’s most dynamic capitals, it offers a powerful journey through the major events of the twentieth century — from the First World War and the rise of the Nazis to the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and German reunification — all within one remarkable city.
